Welcome to the Southeast Region Blog!

Welcome to the Southeast Region Blog!

Greetings to all members in the Southeast Region of the American Guild of Organists. I hope that this blog can be an easy way for us to keep in touch. Please contact me for news and events from your chapter that should be included. I'm happy to spread the word! Scroll to the bottom of the page for the regional events calendar.

Best wishes for a wonderful 2015-2016 season.

Gainesville POE 2012

The Gainesville AGO chapter, my home chapter, recently hosted a Pipe Organ Encounter! Yes, and we survived! Thanks to Dr. John Lowe (Director) and a great supporting cast of AGO officers, volunteers, and faculty members. Your own chapter could host one of these events -- please consider it!

One evening several of the faculty played a recital at Queen of Peace in Ocala. Above is a picture of the 'crew': (L-R) Joby Bell, Charles Tompkins, Laura Ellis, Tony Williams, and Faythe Freese.

AGO Certification -- is it in your future???

SPC, CAGO, ChM, FAGO. Certification by the AGO is a wonderful salary negotiating tool and you might just learn something, too! Our Region IV Coordinator for Education, Jeffrey McIntyre, has some great ideas to share about the certification process. A member of the Atlanta AGO chapter, Jeffrey has developed a great overview of exams. Think of it as an "AGO Certification Prep School!" He's willing to take this presentation on the road . . . does your chapter need an exciting program? Contact him at: jdmatl@aol.com

Columbia 2013 Website Up and Running!

It's not too early to think about your travel plans next summer. Be sure to leave time in your schedule to join us at the 2103 Region IV convention in Columbia, South Carolina, July 3-6, 2013. The Greater Columbia chapter has been working hard to prepare a fantastic convention for you. Check out the schedule, list of performers, venues, and workshop details at: http://www.regional2013.org/

Thank YOU!

During the AGO annual meeting on Wednesday, July 4, I was installed as your Regional Councillor for another two years. Thanks so much for your support! Please let me know what I can do to assist you and your chapter membership during the coming years. Stay in touch!

Nashville Report

What a fabulous national convention held in Nashville last week! I had hoped to make daily posts on the Region IV blog during the week, but so much to do, so many people to see, no time for blogging! I'm sure all of you that attended have your 'favorite' concerts and events. Here are my 'top five favorite things about the Nashville convention':
No. 5: Ahreum Han's recital on Friday (whew!)
No. 4: Hearing our own RCYO winner, Bryan Anderson perform on the Rising Stars concert on Monday morning
No. 3: Spending a week in Nashville
No. 2: The Region IV meeting on Wednesday (can you say 'raffle'???)
No. 1: Seeing friends from Region IV!

Attached is a photo of me and Rising Star Bryan Anderson -- consider inviting him to perform for your chapter this year!

Support the Petition for a Concert Hall Organ!

As shared by Ture Larson from Orlando in the Region IV meeting on Wednesday, the Orlando area is building a new performing arts center. An online petition has been created to encourage the 'powers that be' that an organ be included in the hall. Please visit the website and show your support of "The King of Instruments." We need organs in our concert halls. Here's the website: http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/dpac-organ/
